NMSU O’Donnell Hall Room 046
Construction Completion: July 06, 2020
Owner: New Mexico State University
Location: NMSU Campus Las Cruces, New Mexico
Project Type: Municipality
Project Description:
The renovation of Room 046 on the ground floor of O’Donnell Hall successfully transformed the existing space into two distinct areas: the Math Lab to the east and the Glass Family Research Institute of Early Childhood Studies to the west. This project primarily focused on the western portion, creating an inviting and functional environment tailored to the needs of the user group, who received donor funding for the modernization effort.
The design highlights a new custom reception area that features elegantly curved walls and stepping countertops, enhancing the flow of the space while providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A dedicated display wall was incorporated for signage, alongside custom upper casework that adds visual interest and functionality. The reception area is complemented by an accent wall color that draws visitors in and aligns with the user group’s vision for a comforting environment.
Upgrades were made to light fixtures and finishes throughout the space, creating a cohesive and modern aesthetic. Despite the project budget being limited, Desert Peak Architects collaborated closely with the contractor to refine the scope of work while maintaining high design standards, resulting in a space that met the user group’s expectations and achieved a high level of satisfaction.
