Construction Completion: TBD
Location: Las Cruces, New Mexico
Project Type: Commercial
Project Description:
The Locust Shell Building is an innovative architectural project strategically situated at a prime location adjacent to University Avenue and New Mexico State University. Designed as an open shell building, it is envisioned to accommodate a variety of future tenants, including restaurants, businesses, and retail spaces, fostering a vibrant community hub.
Emphasizing a modern architectural aesthetic, the design adheres to the specific guidelines of the University Corridor, ensuring harmony with the surrounding context. The building façade features a dynamic interplay of materials, including thin brick veneer, an exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS), and exposed steel elements. This combination not only enhances the visual appeal but also promotes durability and energy efficiency.
The façade is marked by extensive glazing, allowing for ample natural light and creating an inviting atmosphere that aligns with the pedestrian-friendly objectives of the University Corridor. This transparency serves to visually connect the interior spaces with the lively street life of the area.
Positioned along Locust Avenue, the building optimizes its location to engage with the surrounding environment. Parking is thoughtfully planned at the rear, ensuring that the main frontage remains unobstructed and pedestrian-friendly. Outdoor seating areas along Locust Avenue are designed to activate the street front, encouraging social interaction and drawing foot traffic to the building.
The structure is divided into two distinct areas, linked by a stylish steel shade trellis. This architectural feature not only provides visual interest but also enhances the outdoor experience for patrons. The first portion of the building offers two flexible tenant spaces, while the second portion provides three additional spaces, allowing for diverse business opportunities and configurations.
The Locust Shell Building represents a forward-thinking approach to urban design, blending modern aesthetics with functional versatility. By prioritizing pedestrian engagement and community interaction, this project aims to contribute significantly to the vibrancy of the University Corridor, establishing itself as a focal point for both locals and visitors.
