Project Description:
The Amador Crossing Supportive Housing project is a collaborative initiative involving the Housing & Neighborhood Services division of the City of Las Cruces, the Mesilla Valley Community of Hope, and Desert Peak Architects. This project aims to establish a campus dedicated to affordable and supportive living in Las Cruces.
Project Overview: The first phase of this Urban Infill project will deliver 50 housing units designed for the unhoused and at-risk populations. The units will include single room occupancy (SRO) spaces and one-bedroom apartments, providing a range of living options to meet diverse needs.
Site and Design: Located on a 4.24-acre lot at 1101 W. Amador Ave., Las Cruces, NM, at the intersection with the E.B.I.D. Armijo Lateral, the site will see improvements to the adjacent bus stop, enhancing accessibility for residents. The design of the facility emphasizes creating a comforting and secure environment. It features modern appliances and materials, ensuring that the living spaces are more than just shelters—they are designed to foster a sense of achievement, self-worth, and stability for the residents.
Communal and Security Features: The facility includes several communal spaces to encourage social interaction while ensuring safety. A central courtyard offers shaded seating, fitness areas, and an outdoor grilling space. Security is a key focus, with the security officer positioned near communal areas like the multipurpose room and courtyard. This officer also monitors key access points, the mail distribution area, and the secure bike storage.
The case manager and property manager’s offices are strategically located to maintain clear sight-lines to communal spaces and the lobby, enhancing oversight and accessibility. Additional amenities include a communal laundry room, an outdoor covered pet area, and multiple outdoor balcony spaces.
The Amador Crossing Supportive Housing project aims to provide not only shelter but a supportive community where residents can heal, stabilize, and grow in a safe and nurturing environment.
